Boost Productivity with the Pomodoro Technique
The Pomodoro Technique is one of the most interesting productivity techniques. It combines 25-minute work periods without any distractions with 5-minute rest periods. These different periods are called Pomodoro (tomatoes in Italian), and once you’ve worked through all four periods, you can take a long rest of 15 to 30 minutes and then start the cycle again.
But the trick doesn’t end there. When you get used to concentrating for 25 minutes, the goal is to extend these Pomodoros to 60 or even 90 minutes, with stops to stretch your legs, because sitting for that long is unhealthy.
The Pomodoro technique can be applied personally and professionally in the office or through teleworking. It helps reduce wasted time and delays to a minimum, helping to create some of the foundations of what we consider a happy company.
However, the best thing about this productivity technique is that it is very easy to implement, unlike other concentration and time optimization methods.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It is based on working in intervals called “Pomodoros,” typically 25 minutes of work and 5 minutes of rest.

How does the Pomodoro technique work?
Now that you know a bit about this technique, I want you to know how to implement it step by step.
Step 1: Set a goal and establish your routine
First, you must choose the task for implementing this productivity strategy. This can be for one or more goals you have set for yourself, ranging from work to hobbies, study or opportunities for physical exercise.
Then, you must organize these objectives daily and weekly to determine their place on your agenda and prevent them from interfering with other activities. When organizing them, it’s important to establish how much time you want to dedicate to them so you know how many Pomodoros you will make.
Step 2: Prepare your timer
The second step is to set your timer to suit your time when using the Pomodoro technique. For this, use a timer on your mobile device or some application or platform that makes it easy to plan your time. In the last section of this article, I recommend some online tools that can help you implement this strategy.
Step 3: Keep distractions away from you as much as possible
Before starting with the stages of the Pomodoro technique, it is important to eliminate as many distractions as possible that can affect your concentration: cell phones, noise, and social networks.
In this sense, if you’re going to use your cell phone to measure your Pomodoros and, therefore, you can’t put it away, I recommend blocking application notifications and putting it in silent mode.
Step 4: Start your first productive Pomodoro
It’s time to try the Pomodoro technique. It is recommended to start with Productive Pomodoros lasting 25 minutes. This period may be extended in the future, but it is not advisable to be a beginner and start for a long time.
Step 5: Start your first rest Pomodoro
After the first successful, productive Pomodoro, it’s time to take that first well-deserved 5-minute break. I do not recommend extending it as your Productivity may be affected, and the Pomodoro technique may need to be more effective.
Step 6: Start again and do your long rest Pomodoro
After doing four Productive Pomodoro’s, the fourth break will not be 5 minutes, but you can choose a time between 15 and 30 minutes. Then, if you consider it, start the cycle again.
